WEDNESDAY 14TH MAY - summer and du maurier

The weather has turned and it is suddenly summer!

This means that it is the Du Maurier festival again. This is the 10th time this has taken place in the delightful little town of Fowey on the south coast of Cornwall.

Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989) wrote many of her popular books in Cornwall at Bodinnick and Menabilly both close to the town of Fowey. She is probably best known for 'Rebecca', 'Frenchman's Creek' and 'Jamaica Inn'. The festival is a celebration of her life and work with literary events accompanied by an assortment of cultural entertainment throughout the week in varied venues around the town, It is such fun and there is a festival atmosphere all week everywhere. I went with A,M and L to hear Dr. Phil Hammond talk about his book and the NHS! I am going again on Sat. eve with P. It is all good fun. The venue is delightful with views over the estuary.

I LOVED that story "Rebecca"!

Have been to Fowey once - and even managed to pronounce it correctly. Stayed in a hotel overlooking the river and ate the most delicious scrambled eggs for breakfast.

Rebecca is one of my favourite books - I only have to read or hear the opening sentence to be transported to Manderley.

Love those Cornish pictures. I really must get to Cornwall some time. It's just a pity it's so far from Scotland!

Those views are amazing, we used to holiday in Cornwall when I was little. Maybe we'll live there when we one day leave France. Debs x

Cornwall just makes my heart ache with awe of it's beauty...how could any writer not be inspired to greatness...The River Fowey is a wonderful sight to see, our River Murray has had the least ever rainfill, in over a hundred years run into it...I am thinking Australia is about to shrivel up and blow away!
