The weather on Sunday was cold and grey so we decided to go to Heligan Gardens which is not too far away. It has a wonderful Victorian garden and I have posted a few of the photos I took at the weekend. This estate was owned by the TREMAYNE family and fell into decay in the early 20th century until 1990 when it was discovered by Tim Smit and John Willis a descendant of the Tremayne family. It is one of the favourite gardens to visit in Britain and has won many awards if not all of them.

This must be a spectacular place to wander about in the summer!
We must put it on the list of places to visit when we're in Cornwall in April - I guess by then a lot of the spring flowers will be at their best.
Thanks for visiting my mountainous blog!
great garden pictures - "did" Heligan many years ago and must go back, but it was in the summer, and it's interesting seeing winter shots for the bones of the place - we did Rosemary Verey's in winter. And great sihouettey one below.
Beautiful shots, looks like a great estate. Interested cold frame, too. The boarding school I went to had a sensational greenhouse, overlooking a 22,000 foot Himalayan mountain!
(Came here from Leslie's blog)
It must be wonderful to walk around in this garden during spring or summer. Like mountainear I will put iy on my list of places to vistit in Cornwall.
Thank you for sharing!
leslie: It us a great place at any time but unfortunately it can be very busy in the summer due to its popularity. These photos are only a taster of the place there is much more.
mountainear:Snowdrops, croci, daffs, some camelias and even some irises were out but it is just gets better and better as the year progresses. Do visit I can't think you will be disappointed.
milla: welcome!I love Heligan in the winter when it is stripped back to bare earth and the garden is resting.
david mcmahon: There are beautiful greenhouses here too but with views only over the walled veggie garden. Will check out your blog. Welcome and thanks for popping in.
petunia:Yes do visit. In Cornwall we have so many wonderful Victorian houses with open gardens but I am lucky as I live nearest to Heligan which is one of my favourite.
so green! in february! why do i live in this permafrost?
Cornwall is one of the places on our list to go. It's a bit of a trek from here, but then Aberdeen is even worse for you!
Isabelle: It is amazing how you get used to the distance. We spend a great deal of time driving from Cornwall to Scotland to see our daughter and just to visit mostly the West coast as my husband's mother comes from Fort William. We feel so at home in Scotland as we have done it for years. We lived in Suffolk for a few years too. Put some good music on the car DVD player and the miles just disappear!!
benjibopper: It is quite green here this year but I think my photos were mostly evergreen bushes!
That looks so beautiful...! Can you imagine that was once a private home? Gosh, I could sure live there.
Beautiful. I love Victorian gardens.
